About Callaway
Overview
Callaway High School is one of six high schools in the Jackson Public School District. It serves scholars in grades 9 - 12.
History
Built in 1966, Callaway was named after the late Robert M. Callaway, a Lafayette County native. He began his career teaching Choctaw Indians in the mountains of McCurtain County, Oklahoma. Before assuming duties as principal of Liberty Grove School, later H.V. Watkins Elementary in Jackson, he taught at Darling in Quitman County and Pocahontas in Hinds County. He was principal at Watkins from 1936 to 1956.

Callaway High School provides ALL scholars with an opportunity to excel in academic and extracurricular activities. The administration, teachers, and staff are focused on creating an educational environment conducive to scholar growth and development. At Callaway High School, we embrace a growth mindset for ALL.
2026-2027 Goals
ACADEMIC PROFICIENCY & PERFORMANCE
- ACT Score: Increase the average A.C.T. score to 19 by the end of the scholar’s junior year.
- English II: 50% or more CHS scholars will perform proficiently in English II.
- Algebra I: 50% or more CHS scholars will perform proficiently in Algebra I.
- Biology I: 50% or more CHS scholars will perform proficiently in Biology I.
- Advanced Placement: 100% of all scholars will have taken at least one Advanced Placement course by their senior year.
- GPA Standing: 50% or more of CHS students will maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Graduation Rate: 90% or more CHS scholars will graduate in 4 years.
CULTURE, ATTENDANCE & ENGAGEMENT
- Co-Curriculars: 50% or more JPS high school scholars participate in co-curricular activities.
- Social-Emotional: 80% or more JPS scholars express and demonstrate pro-social, emotional, and behavioral patterns.
- Mentorship: Provide mentorship opportunities that foster student growth and development.
- Environment: Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and healthy school environment.
- Daily Attendance: Improve average daily attendance rate to 90%.
- Chronic Absenteeism: Decrease chronic absenteeism to 20% or fewer scholars.
- Stakeholder Trust: 95% or more stakeholders express overall satisfaction with Callaway High School.
